James Chau

James Chau is President of the China-United States Exchange Foundation (CUSEF), a Hong Kong-based nonprofit founded by the Honorable Tung Chee-hwa. Appointed in 2023, he leads efforts to strengthen U.S.–China relations through dialogue, education, and cultural exchange. He also serves as the World Health Organization Goodwill Ambassador for Sustainable Development Goals.

A former television news anchor, Chau has interviewed global figures such as Jimmy Carter, Muhammad Yunus, Kofi Annan, and Christine Lagarde.

He began his UN work in 2009 as the inaugural UNAIDS Goodwill Ambassador in China. Born in the UK to Hong Kong and Indonesian parents, he studied at King’s College London and Cambridge University and completed executive education at Harvard Kennedy School. In 2025, he joined the World Economic Forum’s Global Futures Council.
